Hurricane Harvey – Update – August 30, 2017

MNA Disaster Response continues to consult with leaders in TX and will continue to do so until we can get into the area to assess how we might respond with them. Flooded roadways are still limiting access at this time. However, MNA has begun sending mobile bunkhouses, shower trailers and other equipment, pre-positioning these assets as close to the area of impact as possible. This will help expedite setting up volunteer staging areas as soon as safe access is permitted. MNA is working with PCA leaders in the affected areas to determine the best strategic host sites.Hurricane Harvey, now tropical storm Harvey, is continuing to bring rain and is moving over LA, MS, AL, FL, with other states in the projected path. A number of deaths have already been recorded and that number is expected to rise as the waters begin to recede in some areas. In other places rivers have not yet crested and won’t for several more days expecting to bring additional flooding. In Port Arthur TX water rescues are happening this afternoon where flood waters rose into several nursing homes and even some of the evacuation centers took on water.
